What I’m Watching: Moreau House

With Moreau House about to come out, I thought it would be fun to list some of the movies and television shows I watched to get into the headspace for this book.

Charmed
This is an old standby. Since I own the entire series, it’s usually on in the background when I’m writing fantasy of any flavor

This Korean horror film is set during WWII, and features a seemingly normal boarding school/sanatorium (as in, a place for treating TB and other physical illnesses, not a mental asylum), where the girls are actually being used for government experiments to create super soldiers. It’s incredibly creepy, and was the perfect background for a haunted house novel

Crimson Peak
Another horror film, this one is also a standard when I’m writing.

Whitechapel
I only recently finished a full re-watch of this series, which is on Amazon. It’s a wonderful British cop show. The lead, played by Rupert Penry-Jones, suffers from OCD, which slowly grows more pronounced as their cases get more twisted.

Practical Magic
Witches. Family. ‘Nuff said. It’s another staple.

This one is a bit of a departure from the others, as it’s an action/comedy, but they’re the only movies I’ve seen set in Quebec that have made it down here.

Blood Ties
This tv series based on the novels by Tanya Huff was the original inspiration for Evie, so it’s a must, particularly if I get stuck.

Great British Ghosts
This series was new to me, but it’s fantastic. I watched way too many episodes in a row than was probably healthy.
